The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) was established in 1976. Since then, its faculty has been heavily involved in teaching, research and cooperation with industry.
Currently, the department has a faculty composed entirely of teachers. It also counts with the collaboration of invited teachers who take advantage of their industrial and business experience. Technical and administrative support is provided by cadres with competence appropriate to the duties they perform.
The DEM brings together scientific and technical skills in the areas of Energy and Fluids, Materials and Materials Mechanics, Design, Automation and Mechanical Technologies.
The DEM faculty group currently consists of 29 members, all of whom are PhDs. The activities of the department are auxiliary for 9 non-teaching staff.
The laboratory resources are applied in the research systems of the Center of Technologies and Mechanical Materials (CT2M): testing and characterization of materials and structures, advanced computation, combustion and fluid dynamics, automation and control.
